An ode to a toad

Is it inaccurate
to call an algae bloom
a favorite room
of bullfrogs
and waterdogs?
You’ll see
what I mean
when the green sheen
spreads from
seam to seam
and all light is
blocked out
like deepest night,
but first we must
dive and thrive
in those amphibious
homes, see
what they see
when we are
no longer we, for
only from their corner
can we ever see
their sense of humor
as anything more
than mystery.
