Us and them

Half-truths and half-lives,
outright lies and regrets
unbidden, sometimes it’s easy
to forget what separates us
from the animals: not just
a sharp wit and sarcastic
undertones but beats upon
beats upon melodies
(it’s often simply easier
to mold our surroundings
than go without the luxury).
Is it the music we’ve crafted
to remind us of our inability
to control emotions, or
our emotions that have grown
well beyond our grasp?
I’d love to hear the ditties
played in King Turtle’s court,
but I fear being forced to admit
how far we’ve grown apart.
