Mapping the storm

Processed with VSCOcam with b6 preset

I’ve counted each eyelash
twice and twice again,
named each tendril
and mapped the crevices
between. I’ve traced
every pulsing trail,
sketched the network
to memory like the stars
and the sailors of old.
But like those sailors
and their journey across
the vast unknown,
some nights the lines
grow taut, curdling
under some magic as
the squalls grow vivid
as misfortune, and a storm
rages like wild stallions
across the open sea,
as passionate as fire
but just as susceptible.
