Walk this way

In tune to your steps
I’ve traced every crevice,
every fracture scratched
into your anxious ambition
and gathering independence,
the vicious stretch writ clear
by my purpling fingertip
in your tiny clenched fist
as we wander our way
down that familiar road
toward the cliffs and valleys
burning bright between us,
toward home and adventure,
another stroll for the books.
