A dose of joy

It’s the one virus I’ll gladly take,
the one addiction I’ll never break,
one man’s joy, another’s provision,
but for me it’s the desert rain,
an unspoiled leeward division
immune to the wind’s pangs,
or a determined root verbose
and undulating as the cosmos.
It’s a work in progress, incomplete
but with master strokes buttered on,
or the resonance of a quivering opus;
I’m a reader, a listener, a viewer elite
hungry, desperate for the denouement
but never willing to forego the crisis.
