Thirty-one days ago

At ten thirty-four last night you were thirty-one days old,
a month of adjusting to this world and life with us,
four and a half weeks outside the womb,
seven hundred forty-four hours of growing stronger
and more vocal with sounds I’ve come to cherish and adore,
forty-four thousand six hundred forty minutes of your consciousness stretching,
my heart yearning to see the mind hidden
behind the two million six hundred seventy-eight thousand four hundred seconds of dreams and vision,
three hundred twenty-one million four hundred and eight thousand pulses of a heart kick starting
the extremities with its pushes and pulls toward motion and fluidity,
and not a second goes by without us anxious about the next countings you’ve yet to live.
